5% SUPERVISON 

This option meets the minimum BACB supervision requirement and is best for students who are highly independent and already have strong clinical support at their workplace.

Includes:
    •    Supervision for 5% of monthly fieldwork hours
    •    Required monthly observations
    •    Group supervision sessions
    •    Review and approval of supervision documentation
    •    Task List–aligned guidance

10% SUPERVISON

This option exceeds the minimum requirement and provides deeper, more frequent supervision, focused on developing strong clinical reasoning and exam readiness.

Includes:
    •    Supervision for 10% of monthly fieldwork hours
    •    Increased direct observation and feedback
    •    More frequent individual supervision opportunities
    •    Advanced Task List application
    •    Case discussion and decision-making support
    •    Exam-focused clinical guidance.

Important Supervision Changes Beginning in 2027

The Behavior Analyst Certification Board has announced updates to supervision requirements that will impact students applying for certification in 2027 and beyond. These changes affect monthly hour caps, supervision percentages, and client contact requirements.

Monthly Hour Limits: Current vs. 2027

    •    Current applicants (before 2027):
Students may accrue up to 130 fieldwork hours per month.
    •    Applicants in 2027 and after:
Students may accrue up to 160 fieldwork hours per month, allowing for a faster pace of hour accumulation when appropriate supervision and experience are in place.

Supervision Percentage Changes in 2027

    •    5% Supervision (Standard):
Remains available and continues to meet minimum supervision requirements.
    •    10% Supervision (Concentrated):
➝ Will change to 7.5% supervision beginning in 2027.
This means that after 2027, students will choose between:
    •    5% supervision, or
    •    7.5% supervision (formerly known as the concentrated 10% route)
Both pathways remain valid and BACB-approved.

Client Contact Requirements (Applies to Both Modalities)

Beginning in 2027, both supervision models will require timed, direct client contact during supervision:
    •    5% Supervision:
Requires 60 minutes of client contact
    •    7.5% Supervision:
Requires 90 minutes of client contact

What This Means for Students

    •    Students applying before 2027 will follow the current 5% or 10% structure and the 130-hour monthly cap.
    •    Students applying in 2027 or later will:
    •    Be allowed to accrue up to 160 hours per month
    •    Choose between 5% or 7.5% supervision
    •    Complete required timed client contact as part of supervision
